Kalin, dari, carpets and doormats in Khargone

कालीन, दरी, कार्पेट और पायदान

Flooring is the smallest counter in the shop and the one people think about last, usually after everything else in the room is settled. It is also the quickest way to change how a room feels.

The range runs from a doormat at the entrance to a full kalin under the sitting-room furniture, with dari, rugs, artificial grass for terraces and aasan for the puja room in between.

Kalin, dari or rug

The three are not interchangeable, and picking wrong is the usual reason a floor covering ends up rolled up in a cupboard.

Sizing to the room

A floor covering that is slightly too small makes a room look smaller, which is the opposite of what it was bought for. Two rules cover most cases: in a sitting room, the kalin should sit under the front legs of the sofa and chairs at minimum, so the seating reads as one group; beside a bed, a rug should extend far enough that your feet land on it when you get up.

Measure the space before you come, not the room — the area you want covered, in feet. And leave a border of visible floor around the edge; wall-to-wall makes a room feel tighter, not larger.

Artificial grass and aasan

Artificial grass matting has become the standard answer for a terrace or balcony that is too hot and hard to sit on. It cuts glare and heat underfoot, needs no water, and can be lifted and hosed down. Sold by the area you want covered.

Aasan are the small mats for the puja room and for sitting on the floor — kept in the plain and traditional patterns, in sizes for one person.

Care, and what lasts

Doormats do the real work in this climate: dust off shoes at the entrance and everything inside lasts substantially longer. Coir handles dry dust, rubber-backed handles the monsoon.

A kalin wants vacuuming rather than sweeping, and turning every few months so wear and sunlight spread evenly. Dari can simply be washed. Keep any floor covering out of direct afternoon sun where you can — fading is what usually finishes a carpet, long before the pile wears out.

Questions we are asked

Frequently asked

What is the difference between kalin and dari?

Kalin is a pile carpet — warm, soft underfoot, and it quietens a room, but it holds dust and needs vacuuming. Dari is flat-woven cotton — light, thin, washable and easy to lift, which makes it the practical choice for rooms in daily use and for summer.

What size kalin should I buy?

Measure the area you want covered rather than the whole room. In a sitting room the carpet should reach at least under the front legs of the sofa and chairs, and leave a border of visible floor around the edge — wall-to-wall makes a room feel smaller.

Do you sell artificial grass for a terrace?

Yes, artificial garden grass matting for terraces, balconies and courtyards, sold by the area you need. It cuts heat and glare underfoot and can be hosed down.

What sizes of kalin and dari do you keep?

The common feet sizes for sitting rooms, bedrooms and bedsides, in both kalin and dari. Measure the area you want covered in feet and bring that figure — it is a more useful starting point than the size of the room.

Do you sell dari in cotton?

Yes — flat-woven cotton dari, which is the light, washable, liftable option and the one most households here use through the summer. Kalin is the pile carpet for winter and for quietening a room.

Do you supply kalin and dari in bulk?

Yes, at trade rates for volume orders — schools, halls, hostels, dharamshalas and traders. Send the size and quantity and we will quote; see bulk supply.

Do you have aasan for the puja room?

Yes, in plain and traditional patterns, in single-person sizes.
